Kevin Gates will remain in jail after being denied bail on Wednesday (April 19). A judge denied the rapper an opportunity to get out on bail during a bond hearing at the Bridgeview Courthouse in Illinois, according to TMZ.
Gates is currently locked up in the Kendall County jail on a felony weapons charge. The Baton Rouge MC was scheduled to be released from Polk County Jail in Florida on March 24 after serving 180 days in prison, but was held on outstanding warrants in Illinois. He was extradited to Cook County, Ill.
The unexpected roadblock prompted a statement from Gates’ wife Dreka. The message asked for the support of Gates’ fans and criticized the media’s coverage of her husband’s legal woes.
“To everyone that’s rooting for Kevin right now, THANK YOU, but PLEASE shift your thoughts, prayers, energy, etc. towards the idea of Kevin being home and enjoying life as a free man,” she wrote. “Do NOT dwell on the things that have been put out by the media. Their only goal in anything is to grab/seek attention, not necessarily to release information that is FACTUAL.”
Although Gates remains behind bars, he has still been releasing new music. The enigmatic artist dropped a song titled “What If” that feature an interpolation of Joan Osborne’s “One Of Us.” He also track called “911” to the Fate of the Furious soundtrack.
