Karma caught up to a trio of crooks who preyed on poor motorists trapped in the snow last week, police said.
The three appeared to have found themselves the perfect victims. Drivers trapped in the snow, unable to get their cars moving and desperate for help.
According to court documents, the robberies began on Wednesday, when a preacher got stuck on Prospect Ave., The Kansas City Star reports.
A man stopped to help, and the two began digging the vehicle out. When a Chevrolet Suburban pulled up, the two undoubtedly thought they were going to get more aid.
But when two men emerged, authorities said, instead of whipping out a shovel one of them was armed with a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money.
Hours later, the same Suburban approached another trapped motorist. However, shortly afterwards is when karma apparently stepped in.
When police were on their way to the report of the second robbery, they came across a vehicle stuck in the snow. The vehicle was a Chevy Suburban matching the description of the one believed to be involved in the thefts.
Inside the SUV officers found a gun holster, credit cards belonging to the robbery victims, along with $42, according to police.
"I have never seen a case like this before in our office," Jackson County prosecutor James Kanatzar told KCTV News in Kansas City. "There's some satisfaction that the defendants' cars were stuck later in the snow and that enabled the police to find them."
Michael Wilson, Jr., 17, and Darion Page, 18, as well as a third person who is a minor, have been arrested and charged with robbery and armed criminal action, officials said on Friday.
