Kanye West & Damon Dash Sued By Latin Band Over Name Of 'Loisaidas' Movie

A Lower East Side Latin music group sued Kanye West and Damon Dash Thursday, charging that the hip hop moguls have smeared its name.

Michael Medina, a performer in the two-person Loisaidas band, says West and Dash’s new film with the same title glorifies violence and causes confusion with his trademarked group that has performed since 2008.

Medina seeks an order barring Dash and West from using the name, as well as damages to be determined at trial.

“Loisaida” is derived from a Spanish-accented pronunciation of the Lower East Side.
