Adidas and Kanye are back. After the German sportswear imprint ended its deal with the creative back in October 2022 for making anti-Semitic remarks and harassing its employees in the workplace and online, the brand has decided that it will continue to sell adidas Yeezy products. Under his contract, Ye will still receive a 15% commission for every sale, but the brand has elected to donate a partial amount of the proceeds to international organizations that support the groups that he offended. Over 1.3 billion USD worth of Yeezy sneakers are currently sitting in storage, so this decision was made to minimize the company’s profit loss and duck a sustainability ordeal. At the time of writing, it’s still unclear how much stock will be released to the market, what exact models and colorways will be launched and how it will drop (CONFRIMED App, online stores or wholesale retailers) as well as how much of the proceeds will be donated. “What we are trying to do now over time is to sell some of this merchandise…burning the goods would not be a solution,” Bjørn Gulden, CEO of adidas commented. The sportswear imprint pondered about donating all of the sneakers but felt that it would lead to them reaching the market in a volatile way.
