Kanye West was among the recipients of the BET Honors awards this year, as the network presented him with a Visionary Award. Selected for his “extraordinary contributions across the arts,” Yeezy joined Usher and Phylicia Rashad as the night's honorees. At the show's taping last night (Jan. 24), Mr. West was introduced by an unlikely presenter: Damon Dash.
The former Roc-A-Fella head was reportedly candid about his history and relationship with West, citing their "emotional" differences. West was also equally candid during his acceptance speech, stating that the "kid in the back of the classroom" has to “smack” people with creativity. He also made a quip about his wife, Kim Kardashian whom he playfully said has dated "broke black dudes." The presentation included a video montage of commentary by Jay Z, Common and Kendrick Lamar as well.
West also hit the stage with Charlie Wilson for a freestyle during the show. BET Honors airs on Feb. 29.
