Justin Timberlake told folks to “keep calm” over lyrics he reportedly changed during his live performance on "Saturday Night Live."
Controversy has swirled over whether or not the 32-year-old superstar altered the words to his hit “Suit & Tie” during the March 9 performance with Jay-Z as a dig at Kanye West.
Still beaming from his success on “SNL,” however, Timberlake appeared on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” Monday to talk about the performance, and was asked point blank about the reasons for the change.
“For 'Saturday Night Live' it felt like to me you changed one of the lyrics in Suit & Tie,” Fallon said.
Timberlake, who said he was high on cold meds Monday night, played incoherent saying, “Did it seem that way? I don’t remember that. Did I change a line? It is live.”
Conspiracy theorists, however, point to Kanye West’s recent snide remarks during a Feb. 23 concert at London’s Hammersmith Apollo, when he slammed the former N'Syncer with the lyric, “not f—king with that Suit & Tie.”
Timberlake's “SNL” performance included the new line, “my hit’s so sick, got rappers acting dramatic.”
The singer smiled sheepishly and joked about it with Fallon, 38, until finally getting serious … well sort of.
“You know really everyone, keep calm,” he said. “Let me just say, for the record, I absolutely love Kanye. So there’s that.”
Quickly returning to his playful ways he asked Fallon, “Were lyrics changed?”
“I don’t remember,” Fallon responded.
With over a million downloads of the hit song and a 12-city summer tour underway, Timberlake is said to have a new best friend in Jay-Z, both personally and professionally.
West, 35, a longtime comrade of Hov, may be feeling a little slighted by the two new besties, which could have provoked his onstage tantrum.
But there’s plenty of Jay-Z to go around.
In an attempt to put an end to any supposed rivalry between Timberlake and West, Fallon quipped, “Keep calm and Kanye on.”
