Jimmy Kimmel Live! was pulled off the air last week, prompting numerous conversations about free speech and the Trump administration striking fear into television networks. Jimmy Kimmel is set to return this week The 57-year-old host and his eponymous show will come back on Tuesday evening however, not all of ABC‘s affiliate stations will be running the show. Sinclair, a major owner of local TV stations in the United States, has announced that select affiliates will preempt the long-running late-night show with news programming. “Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return,” a spokesperson for Sinclair says ABC also shared a statement about their initial decision and Kimmel’s return. “Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” they wrote. “It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.” Their decision to remove Kimmel from the air was sparked by his monologue last Monday, where he spoke about Charlie Kirk’s death and how the “MAGA gang” was handling it.
