The Jackson 5 may soon be another member down — due to a name change, of all things.
Jermaine Jackson, one of the five original brothers in the Motown group, along with Michael, Tito, Marlon and Jackie, is currently petitioning to have his surname changed to “Jacksun,” The Associated Press reports.
Jackson, 57, states that he is requesting the moniker change for “artistic reasons,” but he will not elaborate any further.
Though the request has not yet been approved, a hearing is set for Feb. 22 in Los Angeles to determine whether the performer will be allowed to change up his famous last name.
“Phonetically, it changes nothing,” his friend Steve Dennis told the AP. “It is something he has chosen to do, and it’s fair to say that you cannot blame this one on the boogie, you’ve got to blame it on the sunshine.”
Dennis’ response is a reference to the Jackson 5’s hit “Blame it on the Boogie.”
If the request does go through, Jackson will be required to have his name change publicly announced in local publications over the next few months, a la Ron Artest’s new moniker, Metta World Peace, TMZ reports.
Jackson is currently touring with his brothers and is also promoting his book about brother Michael, “You Are Not Alone.”
Jermaine Jackson is a attention whore! Talkin' about changing his name!
He need to change his face
