Jay-Z Reveals The Inspiration Behind Their Kids Names

Jay-Z has explained the bizarre inspiration behind the unusual names given to his and Beyoncé‘s baby twins.

The rapper, 47 and his singer wife, 35, called their new daughter Rumi and son Sir – even more distinctive names than the one they gave their first child, Blue Ivy.

Now Jay-Z has given a rather obscure explanation as to why Sir had to be the name for his son, and offered a more logical reason why Rumi was selected for Sir’s sister.

Jay-Z says their daughter was named after a Persian poet, mystic and Islamic scholar called Rumi, born over 800 years ago – because he’s his and Bey’s favourite.

The dad-of-three explained to podcast Rap Radar: “Rumi is our favorite poet, so it was for our daughter.”

He continued: “And then Sir was, like, man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that. He just came out, like, Sir.”

It seems Jay-Z and his enemy Kanye West can’t help giving their sons honorifics instead of names – as Kanye called his son Saint in 2015.

Beyoncé gave birth to Rumi and Sir two months ago, and she’s since been showing off her curvacious post-baby frame online.

She’s also been attending grueling spin classes to get back into shape, as well as attending a recent Missy Elliott gig with sister Solange.

And for his part, Jay has made sure he has plenty of time to bond with the new arrivals before diving into his next tour.

The hip hop giant, who recently released new confessional album 4:44, told the podcast: “I booked the tour for October so I could have at least four months… to just really bond and see their fingers and sh-t like that.”

He added: “[The twins will] be with me [on tour] anyway, but I’m just saying, like, [I needed] a space where I’m not doing nothing, I’m just focused on them.

“I’m not thinking about a show at night or anything like that. That’s why the tour is so far away from the release of the album.”

Meanwhile Beyoncé is considering buying her favorite basketball team the Houston Rockets – after splashing out on a new home with a £40m mortgage.

Considering the couple are worth over a billion dollars combined, the world is financially their oyster.
