Jay Z Pulls His First Album ‘Reasonable Doubt’ Off Spotify

A week after the splashy debut of his streaming service Tidal, Jay Z's music appears to have begun its ebb from Spotify.

The rapper-turned-mogul has pulled his 1996 debut record "Reasonable Doubt" off the popular streaming service, Fader reported, though the rest of his albums remained available on Monday.

A rep for Jay Z's entertainment company, Roc Nation, didn't return an email from the Daily News seeking a comment about the album's removal.

"Reasonable Doubt," which featured the singles "Dead Presidents II" and "Cant' Knock the Hustle," is considered a classic hip-hop record and went platinum in 2002.

The move follows a big week for Jay's new venture, which he vowed will shake-up the music industry by offering artists higher royalties while charging users between $10 and $20 for hi-fi quality songs.

On Saturday, Beyoncé released an exclusive new track on Tidal called "Die With You," a spare, gospel-tinged ode to her husband. Saturday was the couple's seventh anniversary.

Though the service quietly launched in October, Jay Z officially pulled the curtain back at a launch event in Manhattan on March 30 that introduced Madonna, Rihanna, Kanye West, Jack White, Nicki Minaj and other members of pop music's elite as co-owners.

So far, it wasn't clear if Jay Z was looking give Spotify the full Taylor Swift treatment. The Brooklyn-born hip-hop kingpin owns all of his Def Jam master recordings — part of a deal he struck to become the label's president a decade ago — meaning he can do what he pleases with his catalog.

In a Q&A at NYU last week, the 45-year-old entrepreneur said he wasn't out to sink any other streaming services, only improve the experience for both musicians and fans.

"I know everyone thinks 'new company, main business competitor is Spotify' but we're really not here to compete with anyone, we're actually here to improve the landscape," he said, according to a Fader transcript.

"If just the presence of Tidal causes other companies to have better pay structure, or to pay more attention to it moving forward, then we've been successful in one way," he said.

"So we don't really view them as competitors. As the tide rises, all the boats rise."
