Jay-Z Gives WNBA Player Skylar Diggins A New Benz For Her Graduation

Looking for a reason that athletes are signing with Jay-Z (other than you know, the obvious?) Here's one good one: WNBA star Skylar Diggins, one of the rapper's first clients, showed off her Mercedes courtesy of the Roc Nation Sports.

According to Roc Nation's Twitter account, the new ride was a gift for graduation from Notre Dame. On the dashboard was a handwritten note from Jay-Z himself, saying "Enjoy."

If Jay-Z seems to be paying extra attention to his new WNBA star, it's not surprising. Diggins was one of the first athletes to shun the big agents and go to Roc Nation Sports along with Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano and New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz.

The car came from Dancy Automative Group, which is based in New York and often works closely with Roc Nation. The company's CEO, Macky Dancy, said he got the call from Roc Nation Sports on Thursday that they wanted to do something special for Diggins. He arranged for the car, a Mercedes CLS 63 which he said is valued for more than $100,000, to be there when the basketball star exited with her diploma.

The stunt, he said, was coordinated with some help from NBA TV, Diggins' family and the Roc Nation team. While Diggins was at the graduation ceremony, Dancy switched out the car that was in the parking spot of the car Diggins drove in with and replaced it with the new one. Camera crews and bystanders watched in amusement as she walked past the car, before slowly turning and realizing what was happening.

"She went kind of berzerk," he said, laughing.

The car caps off quite a year for the (now former) Notre Dame star. She was picked third in the WNBA draft by the Tulsa Shock after a stellar career with the Fighting Irish. Diggins, who was one of the biggest celebrities in women's basketball during her career at Notre Dame (she has more than 400,000 Twitter followers including Lil' Wayne), led her team in scoring with 17.1 points per game and dished out 6.1 assists per game, leading them to the Final Four (where they lost to eventual champs UConn).

No word if her boyfriend, Notre Dame football player Daniel Smith, managed to do anything any near as impressive for his sweetheart's graduation--but the shock for Diggins, at least on Twitter, still seemed to not be wearing off any time soon.

"I got 99 problems," she tweeted late Sunday, "but a BENZ ain't one."
