Janet Jackson — who was just named a 2019 inductee into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, along with Radiohead, Stevie Nicks, Roxy Music and the Cure — was honored at the Mnet Asian Music Awards in Hong Kong on Friday.
She told the crowd while accepting the Worldwide Inspiration Award: “I dream of an immediate future where women will no longer be controlled, manipulated or abused. I dream of the end of bigotry and discrimination in any form. I dream of a world in which we join hands across all borders and unite as one.”
Korean pop band BTS introduced the icon. (In 2016, BTS broke a US chart record for a band with no songs in English.)
Jackson also gave a shoutout to her nearly 2-year-old son, saying: “Mama loves you, Eissa.”
