The mystery surrounding the enigmatic relationship between Janet Jackson and producer Jermaine Dupri has been solved.
The duo reportedly are still together, but not married, People.com reports.
Breakup rumors have swirled around the couple since they began dating, and they were thought to have parted ways when Dupri did not attend Michael Jackson's funeral.
US Weekly reported at the time that the duo are "polar opposites [who] were never too compatible." Janet is known to be introverted, while Dupri is famous for being a social butterfly.
Though Jackson and Dupri were seen together two days before the MJ tribute, Janet told Harper's Bazaar she was single. That turns out not to have been the entire truth.
"They never really broke up," a source tells People. "Jermaine wanted to give her some space when Michael died."
More recently, rumors that the couple are planning to wed have been circulating on the Internet. But Dupri says they have about as much credibility as previous engagement reports.
"They've been saying that for years, and you don't see a ring on my finger," he told People at a Prive Las Vegas party to launch his Nu Pop Movement watch line. "I guess it just sounds good to have that rumor this time of the year or something."
Dupri and Jackson reportedly have been together on and off for seven years.
