Janelle Monáe Puts Down Kim Burrell's Homophobic Rant At The Golden Globes

"Moonlight" actress Janelle Monáe further distanced herself from Kim Burrell Sunday night in the wake of the gospel singer's homophobic rant.

Speaking backstage at the Golden Globes, Monáe said she proudly appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" last week to promote her other movie, "Hidden Figures," after Burrell — who sings on the film's soundtrack — was disinvited for her hateful speech.

"I'm pro-love. I was very supportive of love," Monáe said while standing with the cast and producers of "Moonlight," which won for best dramatic movie.

"At the end of the day, I think that no matter where you come from and who you love, you deserve to have a right to the American dream and to also have your story told," she said.

"I just think anybody who is representing hate is a part of the problem, and I hope that we can learn from each other and be more empathetic of one another. And I hope that we can remember, at the end of the day, we all bleed the same color, she said.

Burrell performs with Pharrell on the "Hidden Figures" lead single, "I See A Victory."

Monáe and Pharrell wasted no time blasting Burrell last week when a video showed her making homophobic statements in a Texas church went viral.

"The perverted homosexual spirit, and the spirit of delusion and confusion...has deceived many men and women," Burrell said.

Monáe thanked DeGeneres in an Instagram post for "standing on the right side of history."
