IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

Looks like Will Smith may no longer be the only costumed crusader in the family.

Sixteen-year-old Jaden Smith has been cast to play the electricity-wielding teen hero Static Shock in an upcoming Web series — at least according to actor Tyler James Williams.

When asked if he would be interested in playing a young black super hero by an interviewer at this weekend’s MCM Comic Con in London, the “Walking Dead” alum apparently revealed the younger Smith’s previously unknown casting.

“There aren’t that many young black comic book super heroes,” Williams answered. “It’s great to see ‘Static Shock’ is happening with Jaden.”

Warner Bros. has high hopes for the digital series based on the popular character created by Dwayne McDuffie, Robert L. Washington, and artist John Paul Leon for DC Comics’ Milestone imprint in 1993. The character became a mainstream hit during a animated television series that ran from 2000 to 2004.

If Jaden Smith is indeed on board as Static Shock, he joins his father in the DC Comics world. The elder Smith is currently filming his role as the assassin Deadshot in “Suicide Squad,” the upcoming David Ayers-directed flick about a team of super villains conscripted to undertake dangerous missions for the government.
