The LOX are hip-hop legends, so younger artists probably should, at the very least, listen when they have something to say. Jadakiss, Styles P and Sheek Louch recently went on DJ Whoo Kid’s radio show and had some words for up-and-coming artists.
“Before we got on, we studied – not even studied – just coming from school every day turning on Video Music Box – just soakin’ all that type of shit up,” Jadakiss says. “That played a part of our career. Now you don’t have to turn on shit.
You can look on your screen, whatever you want, and do whatever the fuck you want.”
The LOX also delve into the business side of the game, warning young artists to be weary of signing the wrong label deal. They also criticize major labels and executives for not developing artists.
“If you got a movement – you got the lime green dreads, y’all got Rollies, you got a drug dealer nigga – yeah, they taking that and maximizing it,” Jada says. “They ain’t developing it.”
Mainly, Jada, Styles P and Sheek just want the kids to do their homework, and to think hard about the business side before they find themselves trapped in unfair 360 deals.
“The one thing we gotta say, is there’s young black mothafuckas that’s gettin’ money and not going to jail. But respect the culture and learn the history, mufucka,” Styles P says. “Don’t let ’em 360 your single deal, my nigga.”
