Jada Pinkett Smith Denies Being A Scientologist

Jada Pinkett Smith is not a Scientologist, no matter what Leah Remini says.

Smith, 46, on Monday denied claims made last week by the "King of Queens" actress that alleged she was a member of the controversial Church of Scientology.

"I have chanted and meditated in some of the most magnificent temples on earth… but I am not a Buddhist," she wrote on Twitter in a long thread that referred other religions, too. "I have studied Dianetics, and appreciate the merits of Study Tech… but I am not a Scientologist."

Smith's response comes days after Remini — a former member of the Church who cut ties in 2013 — told the Daily Beast that she spotted the actress at the Celebrity Centre in Los Angeles many times.

"I know Jada's in. I know Jada's in," she said. "She's been in Scientology a long time. I never saw Will (Smith) there, but I saw Jada at the Celebrity Centre. They opened up a Scientology school, and have since closed it. But Jada, I had seen her at the Scientology Celebrity Centre all the time."

The school in question was the New Village Leadership Academy in Calabasas, Calif., which has since closed, but was largely funded by the Smith family.

Though the Smiths insisted their school was secular, most of the hired staff were Scientologists, and the school promoted "Study Technology" as one of its teaching methods, a practice created by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard.

Since exiting the Church in 2013, Remini has launched an anti-Scientology crusade, facing the wrath of the church along the way. She currently stars in the Emmy-winning A&E exposé docu-series "Scientology and the Aftermath."

In 2015, she penned a memoir titled "Troublemaker," which also included a shout out to Jada Pinkett Smith.

In the book, Remini recalled a strange incident involving Smith, her husband and noted Scientologist Tom Cruise, who asked the group to play hide-and-seek.

"At first I thought he was joking. But, no, he literally wanted to play hide-and-seek with a bunch of grown-ups in what was probably close to a 7,000 square-foot house on almost three full acres of secluded land," she wrote.
