IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

PhotobucketThe saying "absence makes the heart grow fonder," is one that Jada Pinkett Smith agrees with.

Pinkett Smith, 39, graces the cover of the June/July issue of Uptown Magazine and talks about her long-lasting marriage with actor Will Smith in an interview with the mag.

The couple has been married for a staggering 14 years, and Pinkett Smith says she has figured out the secret to a happy marriage.

She confesses that she appreciates time spent apart from her handsome hubby.

"People think that Will and I don't spend a lot of time together. Too much time, actually, if you ask me ... It's always nice to have a little time apart. Sometimes you need that," she said.

The Smith family is rarely seen without one another at events, whether it be at movie premieres or awards shows.

And now with the couple's two young children are becoming stars of their own, Pinkett Smith says it's they who come first in her life.

"There was a time when all I had to worry about was myself. I'd get offers to do things - to go to Bolivia for three months or go to Prague - and now it's like, I can't. It's not about me anymore, it's about me being there for my kids. And there's no one else I would leave that job to," she added.

The Smith children have already started making a name for themselves in the entertainment business.

Son Jaden, 12, has dabbled in music and acting, starring alongside his dad in "The Pursuit of Happyness," and on his own in "The Karate Kid," while daughter Willow, 10, started a singing career and most recently tore up the music scene with her smash hit, "Whip My Hair."

Pinkett Smith believes her children have a love of entertaining from watching their parents dominate the industry.

"Believe it or not, they're both like me and Will ... Willow's a lot like me - just in the chances she'll take. And then, Jaden has the drive of his father," she said.

"Jaden and I are what I call introverted extroverts. Willow and Will are more pow! Jaden and I, well, we don't give that to just anybody," she added.

She was also sure to mention the controversy she faces from people believing her kids are starting in this face-paced business too early in their lives.

"There are so many other kids you can worry about. My kids? They're going to be all right. I get why people would criticize. But people need to know that Will and I would never put our children in a situation that would bring them detriment," she asserted.
