No more butts at the beach or parks - cigarette butts, that is.
Wednesday Mayor Bloomberg will announce an expansion of the smoking ban to city parks and beaches, a city official familiar with the plan said.
The controversial move is an extension of his anti-smoking crusade, which began with spiking smoking in bars.
There will be some exceptions, the official said, but details were unavailable.
Bloomberg will make his announcement Wednesday at City Hall with Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Councilwoman Gail Brewer (D-Manhattan).
Park advocates hailed him Tuesday night for nixing smokes in the open spaces.
"I fully support this, not only for health reasons but for basic quality life," said Geoffrey Croft of New York City Park Advocates.
Bloomberg, a former smoker, has been mulling the idea for more than a year.
