Mobb Deep fans got it twisted: there is no feud between bandmates Havoc and Prodigy after all.
Fans of the seminal rap group woke up Monday morning to find a stream of increasingly nasty posts on Havoc's Twitter feed, aimed at his partner.
"congrats to P @prodigymobbdeep and @rihanna for getting married soon!! @rihanna please confirm!" read the first tweet at 3:00 a.m.
Then the tweets got really personal: "I got n—as in the jail system to to back up that prodigy was f— homes in jail," read one.
Mobb Deep has been a fixture of New York's hip-hop scene since their debut in 1993. Prodigy and Havoc have released seven albums together, outlasting many of their contemporaries. Though Prodigy didn't respond, it looked like that streak was in danger.
Havoc released a statement Monday night, however, that had nothing to do with the stream of vitriol, according to Billboard magazine.
"Just getting back into NY after my Easter weekend with family and friends in Jersey," Havoc said in the statement. "I left my phone at a gas station yesterday evening while on my way to Jersey after a glorious Knicks game.
"To all Mobb Deep fans: it's business as usual! It's Mobb Deep all day!!! My twitter account @THEREALHAVOC will be down until further notice. The only other real account is @PRODIGYMOBBDEEP. Ignore the rest. One!"
