Frank Ocean has run dry.
The “No Church in the Wild” singer canceled his Australian tour after suffering a torn vocal cord during his opening night performance Thursday night.
Ocean, 25, had managed to complete his gig at Melbourne’s Festival Hall, but throat discomfort caused the R&B star to seek medical treatment. The doctor advised that he cancel his upcoming spate of performances or risk permanent damage, according to reports.
"After last night's concert ... it was necessary to seek medical advice due to vocal issues Frank Ocean experienced during the show," concert promotor Live Nation said in a statement obtained by Billboard. "It has subsequently been confirmed that Frank has suffered a small tear to one of his vocal cords and has received medical advice that he must rest his voice."
Ocean, 25, had managed to complete his gig at Melbourne’s Festival Hall, but was noticably off key at times.
“It was admirable that he soldiered on through obvious discomfort, but might have been fairer on his fans had he postponed, rather than struggle through,” wrote a reviewer for Australia’s Fasterlouder.com.
The cancelled gigs include Friday’s concert at Festival Hall, two more shows in Sydney next week and Sunday’s Splendour in the Grass, a major music festival in Byron Bay
“We are totally gutted that Frank can’t make it and we know that many of our patrons will be just as disappointed as we are,” Splendour’s promoters said in an official statement Friday.
