IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

FOUR LOKO LOSES AGAIN AS CRAIGSLIST DUMPS THEIR ADS!

It will be hard to find Four Loko and other banned caffeinated alcoholic drinks for sale on Craigslist anymore, state Sen. Jeff Klein said.

The popular online trading post pulled the few remaining ads for such beverages, according to a letter it sent to the senator dated Jan. 11, responding to his request.

"I applaud craigslist for doing the right thing," said Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester). "Their decision to remove ads for these dangerous drinks goes a long way in helping save our teens from potentially devastating consequences to their health and their lives."

There were seven ads for Four Loko pulled nationwide, including two in New York State, the website told Klein.

Craigslist also searched for ads for other caffeinated alcoholic beverages, such as Moonshot, Joose and Core High Gravity, but did not find any among its millions of pages, the website said.

However, eBay is a different matter.

Klein had also asked that site to pull ads for the drinks, but eBay has not responded, he said.

A search for Four Loko, conducted by The Daily News Tuesday, yielded at least one hit for an unopened can of the product.

When asked for comment, an eBay spokesman said in an email: "eBay doesn't allow the sale of alcoholic beverages on its U.S. website, with very few exceptions. Listings of unopened containers of caffeinated alcoholic beverages are not allowed on eBay's site."

In November, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration declared the beverages a "public health concern."

That month, the state Liquor Authority banned their sale across New York.

As of Dec. 10, retailers could no longer buy the products from wholesalers, but they were given "a reasonable period of time," to sell existing inventories.

The Liquor Authority said Tuesday that if it found any retailers still selling the products, it would check records to ensure the store had purchased it before Dec. 10.

Meanwhile, craigslist told Klein it never condoned the sale of alcoholic beverages on its pages, and actually included such products among those prohibited from being listed.

However, Craigslist said it is not legally responsible for "third-party" content listed on its website.

Klein said he would continue to monitor craigslist for the ads.
