FORMER NFL PLAYER TOMMY BOYD IS CHARGED WITH HAVING SEX WITH A 14 YEAR OLD STUDENT!

ROSEVILLE, Mich. — A former Detroit Lions player and part-time track coach at Fraser High School was charged Thursday with several counts of criminal sexual conduct in connection with an inappropriate relationship he’s accused of having with a teenage student.
Tommie Leeshay Boyd, 38, of Shelby Township, was arraigned at Roseville’s 39th District Court on two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of accosting a child for immoral purposes.

Boyd remains lodged at the Macomb County Jail unless he can post the $300,000 cash bond a judge set.

Fraser Public Schools hired Boyd as a part-time substitute teacher and the coach of the girls and boys team at Fraser High School.

Prosecutors said that in 2007, Boyd had the first of many sexual encounters at the high school with a girl who was 14 years old at the time.

The relationship continued for more than two years, according to prosecutors. In court Thursday, prosecutors said that at some point, the two had an encounter at the girl’s home and then in July 2009, Boyd allegedly took her to a Roseville motel and the two had sex, said prosecutors.

School officials credited the girl’s psychology teacher for taking initiative after she hinted that something inappropriate occurred in class one day.

“She opened up. The answer she gave was not specifically that this crime happened, but that there was something that happened over the summer that she wishes she could change,” said Fraser Detective Lt. Dan Kolke.

Since the allegations against Boyd first surfaced earlier this month, more students have come forward and told authorities that they too have had inappropriate relationships with him, according to investigators.

“It sounds like he’s been doing this for a while to similar females of minor age 16,15 and 14. We know of at least three others,” said Fraser Detective Keith Zielinksi.

Investigators said they expect even more students to come forward.

Boyd, who was a receiver for the Detroit Lions from 1999 to 1999 and played with the Cincinnati Bengals, has access to many students because he also coached football and trained area youths.

Boyd has been married for more than 10 years and has three children, ages 14, 13 and 4.

Boyd’s contract with Fraser Public Schools was through the Professional Educational Services Group. In a statement, PESG said it became aware of the allegations Jan. 6, and that it followed all required procedures for criminal background checks on him.

Fraser Public Schools said that when the allegations first arose in January, Boyd was removed from contact with students at the school by both the district and PESG.

Fraser Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Rick Repicky said in a release Thursday that it was the first time he learned that there had been inappropriate touching that took place on campus.

“These charges are most disturbing. We will cooperate in any way possible with law enforcement authorities to ensure a fair due process for everyone involved,” said Repicky.

Students Local 4 talked with said they were surprised to hear the allegations against the coach. They said that Boyd was nice and has a good reputation.

“Coach Boyd is someone who is always there to help you,” said student Keith Thomas.

If convicted, Boyd could face up to life in prison for several of the CSC charges.

Boyd has attained a new lawyer, who said he plans on trying to get his client’s bond reduced. However, he said Boyd will most likely be on a tether if he makes bond.

A preliminary examination has been set for Feb. 3.
