Former Memphis Grizzlies Star Tony Allen Arrested On Drug Charges In Poinsett County, Arkansas

MEMPHIS, Tennessee — Retired Grizzlies star Tony Allen was arrested in Poinsett County, Arkansas, on two charges of drug possession, according to online court records. Documents show that Allen and his driver, William Hatton, were booked into the Poinsett County Detention Center on November 5. It is unknown at the time of writing if either has been released. After pulling Hatton over for an "improper lane change," a deputy "detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle," according to the incident report. While searching Allen, officers found a package containing a "green leafy substance." A further search of the vehicle revealed "multiple items of drug paraphernalia," which Hatton claimed were his. Officers also found a "clear plastic wrapper that contained a white powdery substance" inside a pack of cigarettes. The substance was tested and revealed to be cocaine. Allen and Hatton have both been charged with possession of marijuana and possession of meth or cocaine. Additionally, Hatton has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and making an improper lane change. Months earlier, Allen was inducted into the Memphis Sports Hall of Fame for the Class of 2025. Allen played for the Memphis Grizzlies from 2010 to 2017, during which he was selected to the NBA All-Defensive Team three times. His jersey number, 9, was retired by the team in March of 2025.
