Rapper Fetty Wap is trying to get a local principal out of detention.
The hip-hop star apologized Wednesday after getting a Paterson, N.J. principal suspended for filming a racy music video at Eastside High School.
"If I disrespected anybody, I came today to apologize," the rapper said, via NJ.com. "But I also wanted to let people know that I'm a product of my environment."
The rapper joined more than 100 protestors at a board meeting to support the school's principal, Zatiti Moody, according to NJ.com.
Fetty Wap, who attended Eastside High before dropping out as a teen, sparked outrage in the community earlier this month after his lewd video for "Wake Up" surfaced online. The video features images of marijuana and is riddled with provocative dancing.
Officials for the Paterson school district slammed the video's lewd content and launched an investigation to determine how the rapper managed to film in the school without them knowing. Moody was suspended shortly after.
But a slew of the city's residents came to his defense on Wednesday, with many reportedly wearing shirts donning a plea to "Return Principal Moody back to Eastside High School."
Moody, who arrived at the school in 2009, is widely credited in the community for shaping up the school, which was beset with a wave of drug and violence issues before his arrival.
"Before Moody was there, it was a lot different," Fetty Wap said.
