IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

Fast-food breakfasts are nothing new. There's McDonald's Egg McMuffin. The Jack in the Box Breakfast Bowl. The Hardee's Monster Biscuit Sandwich. But would you sign up for a slice of Domino's Breakfast pizza?
The company is testing the eggy slice on the carb-friendliest of demographics -- the college student.

An Ohio Domino's franchise, located near the University of Dayton, is offering the egg and cheesy pizza for $7.99, reports the Restaurant News. Add some toppings, such as ham, onions and sausage and you've got an omelet, of sorts.

"It's like quiche on a pizza crust," franchise owner Tristan Koehler told the Dayton Daily News. "I know it sounds weird to hear ‘breakfast' and ‘pizza' in the same sentence, but it's actually a really good product."

The Dayton Domino's is the only U.S. location open 24 hours. The other three are in the U.K.

The idea behind it? To improve sales during the slow, typically non-pizza-eating hours between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m..

If sales are strong, breakfast pizzas may be coming to your area; the chain would be monitoring the store's performance.

"We'll be watching the store closely to see if it's something we can expand to other stores," a Domino's spokeswoman told the Restaurant News.

Domino's is the latest player to attempt to break into the breakfast market. Taco Bell has been testing its breakfast items, including Sausage Skillet Burritos and Potato & Cheese Roll-ups, this summer.
