Evander Holyfield’s wife has filed for a protective order after an alleged incident of domestic violence last week.
Candi Holyfield claims that Evander hit her in the face during a February 1 dispute in their Georgia home, according to RadarOnline.com. Court documents state that the couple started scrapping around 4:45 a.m. when she complained that the house was too cold for her and their children.
“He told me I was only thinking about myself, the children’s hearts beat faster,” wrote Candi, the boxer’s third wife. She goes on to charge that Evander accused her of being disrespectful as the argument continued, telling her that she should “start putting God first.”
While on the topic of God, they began fighting about tithes and Evander demanded to see check stubs proving that Candi had been making payments to their church. He allegedly struck her in the face when she didn’t produce the stubs.
According to the filing this wasn’t the first time he’d physical with her, citing a 2008 incident where he supposedly choked her in front of their daughter and a housekeeper.
A source close to the couple claims the most recent fight left Candi with a black eye, and the boxer's wife is so fed up with the situation that she filed for a restraining order while Evander was out of town for Super Bowl XLIV.
Evander has not spoken out about the incident earlier as of yet, but a court date in the case has been set for February 18.
