Two alleged Australian thieves described as "dumb and dumber" brought a five-foot long python to McDonald's and wrestled the snake in the parking lot, police said Thursday.
Stunned customers watched the duo tussle with the reptile after they had removed the snake from a box.
"In all honesty, it's just a case of dumb and dumber," Detective Sgt. Andrew Beams told Australian Broadcasting Corp. "Anyone who gets out there with a one-and-a-half meter python in a McDonald's car park - they're pretty dumb."
The pair also allegedly stole a monitor lizard from the pet shop in Melbourne that remains on the loose, police said.
Video of the robbery shows two men with hoods over their heads scrambling around the store with the snake.
One of the accused, Nicolas Jones, 22, denied he had anything to do with the stealing the snake. However, police found a phone allegedly belonging to Jones that contained a text message that read: "Hey bro can you come meet me to pick it up it's off its guts."
A second, unidentified man, was also arrested. Both men were charged with burglary and theft, police said.
The snake, an 8-year-old black-headed python named Boris, was "really cranky" after the ordeal, police said. They added that Boris was eventually returned to the pet shop.
"He was a bit cold and stressed," the shop's owner told ABC. "I am just glad to get him back."
