On his just-released double album, “Scorpion,” Drake responds to Pusha T’s claims on “The Story of Adidon” that Drake was hiding a son he fathered with former porn star Sophie Brussaux.
In “Scorpion,” Drake makes it clear: The kid is his.
On “Emotionless,” the fourth of 25 tracks, Drake comes clean, testifying alongside the gospel wailing of Mariah Carey from her 1991 hit “Emotions”: “Look at the way we live/I wasn’t hiding my kid from the world/I was hiding the world from my kid/From empty souls who just wake up and look to debate/Until you’re starin’ at your seed, you could never relate.”
But Drake reveals even more about the paternity scandal on the album’s final track, the electro confessional “March 14”:
“I had to come to terms with the fact that it’s not a maybe . . . She’s not my lover like Billie Jean/But the kid is mine/Sadie used to tell me all it takes is one time/And all it took was one time/S–t, we only met two times, two times . . . I’m out here on front lines/Just tryna make sure that I see him sometimes.”
Drake continues to wrestle with his feelings about single fatherhood on “March 14,” admitting his own failures and even addressing his son directly: “Single father, I hate when I hear it/I used to challenge my parents on every album/Now I’m embarrassed to tell ’em I ended up as a co-parent/Always promised a family unit/I wanted it to be different because I been through it.”
Certainly, the rapper has plenty of room to work through his issues on “Scorpion,” his first proper album since 2016’s “Views.” The 90-minute LP includes this year’s No. 1 hits “God’s Plan” and “Nice for What” as well as guest appearances by Jay-Z (on “Talk Up”) and a posthumous Michael Jackson (from his previously unreleased “Don’t Matter to Me”).
And unlike Kanye West’s “Ye” earlier this month, “Scorpion” dropped without a hitch at its scheduled release time of midnight today.
