Dr. Dre Donating Royalties From ‘Compton’ To Fund New Entertainment Center

Hip hop mogul Dr. Dre will soon send money straight into Compton.

The rapper and producer announced he would donate all of the royalties from his new album "Compton" to help fund a new entertainment and performing arts center in the Los Angeles suburb, which is his hometown.

"I feel it's the right thing to do and I hope everybody appreciates the work I put into this album," Dre said on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 radio show. "I've been really trying to do something special for Compton."

The generous donation is a nice gesture by Dre, whose net worth according to Forbes is $700 million. In addition to being a highly successful artist and record producer, the 50-year-old entrepreneur has earned a tremendous amount of wealth through his popular headphone company Beats by Dr. Dre.

Dre's contribution to society shows how much he's evolved over the past two decades, as his former rap group NWA used to preach anti-establishment anthems such as "F--- tha Police" and "Gangsta Gangsta."

The 50-year-old icon's new album premieres tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern time on Apple Music, where it will play uncensored on a loop for three hours. It will be available for purchase exclusively on iTunes and Apple Music on Friday.

The highly anticipated LP, which is Dre's first since 1999, is made up 16 tracks and features frequent collaborators such as Eminem, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit and Kendrick Lamar.

The luminary had planned on releasing a new album called "Detox" as a follow up to his critically acclaimed "2001" for more than a decade, but he ended up never completing the project.

"It just wasn't good," said of the prospective LP. "This is something you're not gonna hear many artists say. The reason 'Detox' didn't come out was because I didn't like it."

Instead, Dre will use "Compton" as his "grand finale." The album will serve as a soundtrack for the upcoming movie "Straight Outta Compton," which follows the rise and fall of NWA.

The film hits theaters Aug. 14.
