Dr. Dre And Ice Cube Break Silence On Suge Knight Hit And Run On ‘Straight Out Of Compton’ Set

Five months after the deadly hit and run, Dr. Dre is finally expressing himself about the murder charge facing his former Death Row Records business partner.

As Suge Knight faces behind bars waiting for the start of his murder case, his fellow Death Row records co-founder opened up to the Hollywood Reporter about the deadly Jan 29 incident on the set of a trailer shoot for the upcoming N.W.A. biopic, "Straight Outta Compton."

"I was there. But I was just leaving, so I didn't know what happened until I was halfway home," Dre told the movie trade publication.

"I heard about it over the phone. Everybody was supportive everywhere we went, and we didn't have one issue throughout the entire filming of the movie. It's crazy that this happened during the f-ing filming of the commercial."

The rapper famously abruptly ended his partnership with Knight in 1996, walking away from a stake in Death Row Records reportedly worth $50 million at the time.

What really bothers Dre and his fellow NWA alum Ice Cube is that the pall of the deadly attack has been cast over their movie.

“It's the dangerous part of living in South Central," Ice Cube told the Hollywood Reporter. "Some people don't care if you're making a movie or not. It's unfortunate because the movie is so good, so creative, so many talented people involved."

Knight is currently behind bars awaiting the start of his murder trial over the death of businessman Terry Carter, who was fatally struck by the rap mogul's truck in the parking lot of a Compton, Calif., fast food joint. Also struck and injured was former gang member Cle "Bone" Sloan, who served as a technical advisor on the trailer.

The 50-year-old Knight pleaded not guilty to murder, attempted murder and hit and run, with his legal team claiming it was self-defense since Sloan had threatened to shoot him first.

"It's just a really unfortunate incident," says Dre of the hit and run. "Maybe (Knight) was looking for trouble. I don't know."
