DMX has had a rough road. Despite his success as a rapper and actor in the late '90s and early 2000s, he grew up in a rough neighborhood, suffered through an abusive childhood and went on to have a lot of trouble with the law, racking up arrests for drug possession, reckless driving, animal cruelty and more.
His personal life has also been a bit of a mess. He was married to Tashera Simmons for 11 years, but he had several extramarital affairs, which led to the birth of some of his 10 children.
With that kind of background, you might think he'd be the perfect candidate for Fix My Life, inspirational speaker Iyanla Vanzant's show on Oprah Winfrey's OWN Network.
The rapper is featured on an episode of the show that aired Saturday, but now he's saying Iyanla didn't fix his life, she made it worse.
"DMX agreed to be a guest on Iyanla: Fix My Life with the understanding that she would be helping his relationship with his 10 children," X's rep Domenick Nati said in statement distributed to AllHipHop.com. "When he arrived for the taping, most of the content was focused on his struggles with drugs and poor parenting. Iyanla did not 'fix' DMX's life, just made his image worse, and doesn't not have DMX's personal written consent to use the footage."
While DMX was not able to stop the 90-minute show from airing, he is trying to move on. Last week, he made a surprise appearance at Alicia Keys' show at Madison Square Garden. And he seems intent on fixing his career with a new a new album and film in the works. The album is said to include Swizz Beats and he's trying to nail down Timbaland, Dr. Dre and Kanye West for guest spots. On the film front, X will appear in Blame It On The Hustle with Mekhi Phifer and Ving Rhames.
