It's been 13 years since a controversial gunfight erupted in Club New York, but the legal battles roll on for Sean (Diddy) Combs.
Although Combs was acquitted of firing a gun in the 1999 melee, he was hit with civil lawsuits. The fashion/music mogul joined with owners of the defunct club to settle the cases, agreeing to pay $1.8 million to the most seriously injured bystander, Natania Reuben, and $550,000 to others.
Combs’ share of the settlement — $850,000 — was never disclosed until Tuesday when he asked the courts to intercede.
His insurance company went bankrupt, and the New York State Liquidation Bureau, which steps in when insurance companies fail, now says it won’t defend his claim. Combs is asking the courts to order the state to hurry up.
