A member of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team confirmed that they had indeed reached out to President Donald Trump for a potential pardon. Speaking with CNN correspondent Elizabeth Wagmeister in an interview shared on Tuesday (Aug. 5), attorney Nicole Westmoreland revealed that the request had officially been made. “It’s my understanding that we’ve reached out and had conversations in reference to a pardon,” Westmoreland explained. “I think that Mr. Combs is a very hopeful person, and I believe that he remains hopeful,” she continued after Wagmeister revealed Trump’s hesitance to pardon the Harlem native.POTUS detailed, “I was very friendly with him, I got along with him great, and he seemed like a nice guy. I didn’t know him well. But when I ran for office, he was very hostile,” and confessed that this dynamic made a presidential pardon, “more difficult to do. In May 2025, at the start of Combs’ criminal trial, it was rumored that the 55-year-old and his legal team had “ongoing and preliminary” conversations with Trump regarding a pardon despite Combs’ alleged dislike of the President. Last week, ahead of the aforementioned interview, it was reported that POTUS was “seriously considering” taking the action. Combs was convicted of two federal counts of transporting women across state lines for the purpose of prostitution, and acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking charges. Earlier this week, Judge Arun Subramanian labeled the Grammy winner a “risk of flight or danger,” as he denied Combs’ legal request for bail for the fifth time. “Even if the flight-or-danger requirement was satisfied, there are no ‘exceptional reasons’ warranting a departure from what Congress has required,” the ruling laid out. “Combs’s Mann Act arguments might have traction in a case that didn’t involve evidence of violence, coercion, or subjugation in connection with the acts of prostitution at issue, but the record here contains evidence of all three.
