Diddy‘s sex trafficking trial is underway, and his lawyers have they revealed their plan to show that his ex-girlfriend and star witness, Cassie, was “aggressive,” “violent,” and “capable of physical confrontation” while they dated from 2007 to 2018. Jury selection was set to take place on Friday (May 9), but the process was delayed as the prosecution and defense discussed what topics would be fair game when cross-examining witnesses, Variety reported. Federal prosecutors will be motivated by her accounts of their relationship, which paint the 55-year-old artist as abusive and coercive. The defense, however, hopes that they can shift that narrative by showing that she was a “strong” woman and possessed an inclination to be violent. Both the prosecution and Judge Arun Subramanian had pushback on this approach, claiming that these topics did not hold any relevance within the confines of a sex trafficking trial. “Strong people can be coerced just like weak people,” Subramanian said. Diddy’s legal team, led by Marc Agnifilo, believes that the violent situations they will touch on are important because they point to Cassie’s “pertinent character traits.” As of now, there is no confirmation on whether or not Judge Subramanian will allow the defense to explore this argument to the jury.
