Maurene Comey, daughter of former FBI director James Comey and a federal prosecutor who worked on cases against Sean “Diddy” Combs and Jeffrey Epstein, has been fired by the U.S. Justice Department no reason was given for her termination. A source spoke with the outlet about her firing “on the condition of anonymity to discuss personnel matters.” Maurene Comey was a veteran lawyer in the Southern District of New York and considered the most elite of the Justice Department’s prosecution offices. Her major cases included the sex trafficking prosecution of Epstein, who committed suicide while awaiting trial in 2019. She was also the lead prosecutor in Combs’ recent trial that garnered a mixed verdict, which resulted in him getting convicted on prostitution charges and acquitted on racketeering and sex trafficking charges. Maurene was described as a “potential target” due to her father’s tension-filled relationship with Trump. He was the FBI director when Trump first took office in 2017. Comey was appointed by then-President Obama and prior to that, served as a senior Justice Department official in President George W. Bush’s administration. When Trump entered office, Comey declined to attend a private dinner to “pledge personal loyalty to the president.”
