Floyd Mayweather is putting his money where his heart is.
The fighter is reportedly betting $5.9 million on Monday night's Game 7 between the Pacers and the Heat, going with Miami, a seven-point favorite against Indiana.
"Money" Mayweather has no shortage of sirignanos these days — having just inked a six-fight, $200 million deal with Showtime — but a nearly $6M wager is pretty outrageous, even for an avid (and successful) bettor like Mayweather, who is known to root for the Heat even when he doesn’t have money on them.
"This is kind of ridiculous. C'mon Floyd," Benjamin Lee Eckstein of AmericasLine.com, a nationally-syndicated odds column, said.
"I know that there have been people who walked into a casino and bet a million dollars, but not on basketball. It was always the Super Bowl," said Eckstein, who added that Mayweather "only" stands to win about $600,000 on a bet that could cost him $5.9M.
According to Vegas Gambling Steam, which reported the news of the big bet on Twitter (@Pregame_Steam), Mayweather had to spread his wagers across nine sportsbooks, a split that made sense to Eckstein.
"I don't think that anybody's taking a six million dollar bet at one shot," He said. "You'd probably have to call (Vegas mogul) Steve Wynn personally for that."
Mayweather has never been shy about flaunting his riches, and routinely shares his winning and losing tickets on Twitter, so it's probably worth following him tonight.
"Listen, good luck to him," Eckstein said. "I took the Pacers plus seven."
And for fewer figures.
