Devin Haney Calls Out Jaron 'Boots' Ennis While Talking Ryan Garcia Rematch

Devin Haney revealed he’s focused on elite matchups and legacy fights. “I want to fight the best fighters in the world,” he said. “That’s been my mentality since day one. ”He’s not just talking about staying at welterweight, either. Haney explained that he has been pushing himself in training by sparring with naturally larger opponents, such as Troy Isley and Kevin Newman, who compete at 160 and 168 pounds. “I sparred a lot bigger guys… I just feel so much better this fight, being more my natural self, not having to kill myself to make weight,” Haney said. That comment was telling Haney looks more comfortable at 147 than he ever did squeezing down to lightweight, and the freedom has translated to sharper timing and cleaner execution. When Sparks asked where he plans to go next, Haney didn’t hesitate to revisit the unfinished business that still hangs over him. “The Ryan Garcia fight is a huge fight,” he admitted. “Still a lot of question marks there… that’s the fight I want the most.” The mention of Garcia immediately reignited interest in a rematch after their April 2024 bout was overturned to a no-contest following Garcia’s positive drug test. It’s the kind of storyline that still looms large over boxing — a controversial outcome, a star rivalry, and a question of who truly won that night. But Haney’s ambitions don’t stop there. He’s already thinking about moving up another division, setting his sights on names that would test both his precision and durability. “I’m willing to fight any of these top guys… at 147, 154,” he said. “I want to go up eventually.” That statement opened the door for speculation about Jaron “Boots” Ennis, the Philadelphia powerhouse who recently made his super welterweight debut with a first-round TKO win in his hometown. Ennis, 35-0 with 31 knockouts, has quickly become one of the sport’s most feared technicians — a switch-hitter with power in both hands and a style that overwhelms opponents. When asked about the possibility of crossing paths, Haney didn’t dodge. “We’re going to cross paths eventually,” he said. “Maybe 154, maybe 160, but we got to see.”
