Damon Dash Talks About Aaliyah’s Untimely Death

Damon Dash feels he could have prevented his then-girlfriend Aaliyah from tragically dying.

The co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records opened up on The Real about the late R&B singer and how he feels he could’ve prevented her from getting on the plane that ultimately crashed and took her sweet voice away.

“Well, there is no chance that if I was there, we would have been on that plane. You know what I'm saying? So, it would have never happened that way," he told the co-hosts.

Dash, 44, went on to explain that he felt the Bahamas bound-aircraft Aaliyah and her crew crashed in was unsafe, and had he been there, he would have deterred them from boarding.

"She told me she was going to the Bahamas and I was against it like, 'Yo, don't go. 'Down to the last Blackberry (conversation) we had before she went there, she was like, 'Yo, I don't like that plane.' And I was like, 'Don't get on it.' And she was just like, 'You know, I gotta do it,'" he recounted on The Real.

The Grammy-nominated singer died at the age of 22-years-old on Aug. 25, 2001, shortly after takeoff en route to filming a music video in the Caribbean islands. Dash, who had been with the singer in Miami days before her tragic demise, was unable to attend as he had to appear in court in New York.

"It was a complicated situation, but she had to go do that video. So you know if I was there, I would have made sure that that jet that was supposed to be for her, the G4, she would have been on that."
