A 17-year-old Queens boy was killed and two of his buddies injured during a wreck in Rego Park early Wednesday.
Cops spotted the trio stealing rims from a car at the corner of 59th Road and 68th St. just before 2 a.m. Police said they raced from the scene in a stolen black Lincoln Town Car.
The trio raced down Eliot Ave., turned left onto Woodhaven Blvd. and smashed into a steel support column of the elevated tracks of the LIRR, leaving the car a twisted wreck, police said.
"We heard the impact, like an explosion," said Carmen Espinal, 39. "It woke me up!"
A witness at a nearby store told reporters cops were chasing the car, but police denied they were in pursuit.
The front-seat passenger, a 17-year-old who was not identified, died at Elmhurst Hospital Center, police said. The other two youths were being treated at the same hospital.
The driver was identified as Joseph Kemp, 17. The other paassenger was identified Anthony Cruz, 15. It was not immediately clear if they would be charged.
"Oh my God, Oh my God!," Kemp's mother, Lisette Kemp, screamed before collapsing on the floor of her Brooklyn apartment when she heard about the accident.
"That's where things lead when you do the wrong things in life," said Michael Tencza, 42, a Rego Park resident who passed by the scene of the crash.
