A 12-year-old boy stands accused of killing his evangelical parents and stabbing two of his siblings in a small Colorado town.
The child's folks, Charles and Marilyn Long, were found dead Tuesday in Burlington after authorities responded to a 911 call by the boy. Police also discovered two children had been stabbed and were seriously wounded.
It wasn't until Wednesday that police said the suspect, whose name has been withheld because of his age, was detained by police.
"The case has been referred to the district attorney's office for the filing of formal charges," said Colorado Bureau of Investigation division director Steve Johnson, The Denver Post reported.
The two siblings -- Ethan, 9, and Sara, 5 -- were flown to a hospital in Denver and are listed in critical condition.
The Longs had five children. The 5-year-old is the youngest and the oldest is in his 20s. The family regularly attended the Free Evangelical Church.
"They're very good parents, very committed to their kids," Pastor Ron Lee told The Denver Post.
Of the boy accused of killing the Longs, the pastor said: "He's the sweetest kid... He is very helpful, he's got a very pleasant personality."
Charles, a former sheriff's deputy who later drove a delivery truck for Frito-Lay, recently celebrated his 50th birthday. Marilyn, 51, home-schooled her kids and was a youth minister.
