Dame Dash Facing $10 Million Defamation Lawsuit From ‘Dear Frank’ Filmmaker Josh Webber

Dame Dash and filmmaker Josh Webber drama continues in a new lawsuit, with Webber claiming Dame's allegedly defamatory statements cost him a $10 million movie deal. Dash has already lost two lawsuits to Webber over his comments as the two battled over credit for the movie Dear Frank. One, in 2022, was for defamation and copyright infringement and had a judgment of $823,000 in Webber's favor. In that one, Webber claimed Dash exited the project over production disputes and then attempted to sell the film under a different name. The filmmaker accused the hip-hop mogul of falsely portraying himself as the director and owner of Dear Frank. After he failed to pay up the six-figure judgment, Dash was ordered to turn over full ownership of his businesses and various movie titles to satisfy the debt. The second lawsuit came in 2024, after Dash's comments about how Webber and others "steal my shit" on the Earn Your Leisure podcast cost Webber a job to direct and produce a movie called Fast Life. Webber sued for defamation and won that one too, with a $4,000,000 judgment against Dash. Neither judgment has been paid out, as Dash is in the middle of bankruptcy proceedings. Now recent history is repeating itself, as Dash's public statements have, Webber says, cost him another movie job, and he's suing in return. On Monday (Dec. 22), Webber filed suit against Dash in Los Angeles federal court. The suit claims that Dash's public threat to file a RICO lawsuit against Webber and others unless they paid Dash $100 million — a threat he made via text message, email, and on Instagram — cost Webber a $10 million directing and producing job once All Hip Hop picked up the story. Included with the lawsuit is an affidavit from a member of the production company for the film, a "Bolly-Hood" cross-cultural romance titled Torn. The woman, Tina Parmar, writes that Webber was set to be paid $10,000,000 to direct and produce the film, but when news of the Dash IG post and All Hip Hop article came out, one of the film's investors demanded that Webber be taken off the project. Webber is suing for defamation of character, saying that Dash knew that the accusation that Webber was part of a criminal organization was "false and defamatory," and that Dash "knew [it] was false when he made it." The filmmaker adds that Dash's IG claims to have "directed" and "financed" Dear Frank were also false, as proven by previous court cases.
