CRAZED FAN THAT TASERED 2 PEOPLE @ THE MEADOWLANDS IS CHARLEMAGNE'S DAD! LOL!

Charlemagne Tha God, co-host of the Power 105 The Breakfast Club, had to bail his father out of prison. The radio jockey’s father, Leroy McKelvey, was arrested for sneaking a taser into the Metlife Stadium and tasing a number of fans. Mr. McKelvey, age 59, claims that he was attacked for wearign a Cowboy’s jersey in Jets country. Other claim the fight started because Mr. McKelvey would not stop making noise during the 9/11 memorial ceremony before the game. The victims of Leroy include a marine.

Charlamagne tweeted:

It started off as a solemn night at the Meadowlands with the pregame 9/11 ceremonies and ended with an exhilarating Jets comeback victory over the Cowboys.

But in Section 324 of the upper deck, right behind one of the end zones, a guy from South Carolina named Leroy McKelvey was able to sneak an illegal Taser the size of a cell phone into the stadium and allegedly used it on three fans during a scuffle just before halftime.

None of the fans were seriously injured, although one man was hit in the neck and developed a welt that required medical attention. McKelvey was taken to Bergen County jail and faces charges.

It's despicable that this act of violence could happen under any circumstances, and more reprehensible that it happened on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 after such a heartbreaking day of remembrance in New York. What's more, who would think to bring a Taser to a football game, anyway?

Here's where we are headed: Can you blame sports leagues if they require fans to empty their pockets and pass through metal detectors before being allowed into arenas and stadiums?

You think lines at airport security are long and can cause your blood pressure to spike? Imagine what it's going to be like clearing 80,000 people through security. How appealing is getting to the stadium at 6 a.m. for a 1 p.m. kickoff?

I'd like to think stadiums are still a sanctuary for sports fans, a place they can go with the family to get away from it all. More and more those days seem to be ending.

"We are always refining and improving our security procedures," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Monday. "These procedures have been successful in keeping items that can cause serious injuries out of our stadiums. We will continue to be vigilant in protecting the safety of our fans."

That may be true, but what's going on here? A fan gets beaten into a coma in the parking lot at Dodger Stadium on March 31 because he's wearing a Giants jersey. At the Raiders-49ers preseason game last month, one man was beaten up in the bathroom and two others were shot in the parking lot.

NFL security requires patdowns as fans enter the stadium. Fans are not required to empty their pockets unless they are bulging. McKelvey had the small Taser in his pants pockets, a source said.

Is security vigilant enough at MetLife Stadium? Homeland Security recently awarded it first place in three of six categories for best stadium security. A friend of mine who was at the Jets game said he was patted down vigorously to the point where the guard nearly crossed the line and touched him in an area in which he didn't want to be touched. One fan Monday even called the stadium complaining that the patdown was too vigorous.

The atmosphere before the game was peaceful and respectful. The Jets ran onto the field carrying American flags. The Stars and Stripes were then unfurled to cover the entire field before the national anthem.

"Taps" and "Amazing Grace" were played.

McKelvey's son, Charlamagne, said Monday that his father, a lifelong Cowboys fans, came up from Moncks Corner, S.C., for the game, but the two were not sitting together. The son's version of what happened: "He got jumped by Jets fans when the Cowboys were leading by two touchdowns, so he was just defending himself. He shouldn't have had a Taser on him. But I really feel he took a risk because he felt threatened."

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, fans seated around McKelvey were angry that he did not stand for the national anthem and was talking during portions of the pregame program when the stadium went quiet.

Although some implied last week that Rex Ryan was inciting Jets fans when he said he didn't recommend fans come to the game wearing Cowboys gear, he was hardly issuing a threat.

"I'm not calling for our guys to do anything," Ryan said on Friday. "The safety of every fan is important to everybody in this organization, including me. But would I prefer not to see another color jersey, another team's jersey? Absolutely. I would love to see our stadium just in our color."

On a day when sports was supposed to be an escape from the cruelty and madness of life, we are provided with yet another reminder of just how out of control sports fandom has become. They erect as many metal detectors as they want, but at some point, people have to start respecting one another, regardless of what jersey they're wearing.
