MC Hammer's bumbling cousin who appears frequently on the rapper's reality show, 'Hammertime,' has been accused of raping a woman he met on Twitter. Marvin Grant, 33, was arrested on Thursday for investigation in the sexual assault of a 40-year-old woman who arranged to meet him at a hotel in Livermore, Calif. on Wednesday. Grant, who goes by "Bigg Marv" on the A&E show, attacked the woman after she rejected his advances, police said.
According to reports, Grant and the woman began a flirtation on Twitter which evolved into frequent phone calls and emails. After the alleged attack, the woman reported her story to the police and they attempted to convince Grant to turn himself in.
Grant was tracked down near Hammer's house and arrested. A police spokesman was quoted saying they believed Grant was preparing to leave the country.
Hammer, a prolific Twitterer himself, has taken to the micro-blogging site to defend his cousin. Shortly after the arrest, he wrote: "Marv has been picked up. Were standing by him. Welcome to Fame Cousin Marv. Were Praying for you."
On Friday, Hammer thanked his followers for their prayers and insinuated that the rape allegation stemmed from his new found notoriety. "He's a good guy, he has not been exposed to the 'World of Fame' where you become 'The Prey'."
'Hammertime' follows the rapper and his family during their daily lives and features an occasional visit from Grant, whose other nickname on the show is 'Lyin' Marv,' for his penchant for bending the truth.
