An off-duty cop who was allegedly driving drunk struck and killed the daughter of a Brooklyn pastor early Sunday, police sources said.
Police Officer Andrew Kelly was behind the wheel of a blue Jeep Grand Cherokee that slammed into the woman trying to catch a cab at the corner of Ave. N and E. 56th St. in Marine Park around midnight, the sources said.
The victim, Vionique Valnord, 33, had just left a wedding moments before she was mowed down by the jeep, suffering massive injuries, police and witnesses said. She died a short time later.
"She was crossing the street trying to stop a cab, but we ended up getting one down the street," said her heartbroken friend Nesly Lafontant, 23. "That's when we called for her to come, and she turned around and got hit."
Lafontant said the Jeep roared down the street and made no effort to slow down before it slammed in Valnore.
"When the car hit her she fell away from the car and it came to a stop," said Lafontant. "He hit the brakes only after he hit her - he didn't slam on the brakes before. There was no screeching tire sound or anything."
Kelly, who is assigned to the 68th Precinct in Bay Ridge, was arrested a short time after the crash, the police sources said.
Wearing a Yankees jacket and hat, Kelly was later led from Park Slope's 78th Precinct in handcuffs but charges against him were not immediately announced.
Valnord, whose father is the head of the Church of God on Rogers Ave., was remembered as a cheerful, caring friend by her devastated pals.
"She was such a great person and a good friend," said Lafontant, who recalled how happy Valnord looked moments earlier at the wedding at the nearby Floyd Bennett American Legion. "We were all at a wedding having a good time … now look what happened."
Valnord lived in an apartment above her father's church and devoted much of her time to Bible study and the Haitian congregation's social programs, her friend said.
"She's a sweetheart (and) she treated everyone she met equally," said the victim's roommate Chinasa Nwankwo, 27. "When I heard what happened, I just could not believe it."
