Chris Brown's highly anticipated ballad "Crawl" has landed on the Internet just one day after his ex-girlfriend Rihanna's new single, the slow burning "Russian Roulette" debuted
"Crawl" is slated to be Browns' second single from his forthcoming album Graffiti. The singer recently tweeted that the song would be premiering on Wednesday (October 21) and the accompanying video would feature Bad Boy artist Cassie in the clip. The album's first single, the uptempo "I Can Transform Ya" featuring Lil Wayne, is currently #52 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The melancholy "Crawl" features Brown pensively singing about a relationship that has slipped out of his hands; lyrical parallels to his situation with Rihanna are inevitable. The two briefly reunited after their much-publicized February altercation, however, following ongoing court hearings and stay-away orders, the pair has split.
"Everybody see it's you/ well, I never want to lose that view," Brown sings. "Everybody says we're through/ I hope you haven't said it, too."
The chorus then calls for an incremental reconciliation.
"So we'll crawl, until we can walk again," Brown sings. "Then we'll run, until we're strong enough to jump/ Then we'll fly, until there is no wind/ So let's crawl, crawl, crawl, back to love."
Rihanna's own ballad, "Russian Roulette," written by Ne-Yo and Chuck Harmony, also can be interpreted as a look at their situation.
"And you can see my heart beating/ You can see it through my chest/ I said I'm terrified, but I'm not leaving/ I know that I must pass this test/ So just pull the trigger," Rihanna sings on the song.
Brown is scheduled to appear on New York radio station Hot 97 on Wednesday for an interview with Angie Martinez. The singer will be performing in New York next week for Power 105's Powerhouse concert. The performance and interview are Browns' first attempts at promotional appearances in the wake of his guilty plea and sentencing for assaulting Rihanna.
