As police investigate the shooting that took place at Chris Brown's pre-VMAs bash at 1OAK in West Hollywood in the early morning hours Sunday, the singer's reps want to clear his name.
"Chris hosted an event in Los Angeles last night to celebrate the upcoming release of his album 'X,' during which an incident occurred," Brown's reps said in a statement to the Daily News Sunday night. "This incident did not involve Chris; he was merely the host of the event."
Brown, 25, who is currently on probation for his 2009 assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna, co-hosted the pre-VMAs fiesta with Pia Mia.
Gunshots rang out shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning where two men and a woman were wounded, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department said in a statement provided to the Daily News.
The victims included 49-year-old rap mogul Marion (Suge) Knight, who was reportedly shot six times before being rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery and was expected to recover in ICU. No updates on Knight's recovery have been reported.
Laura Coverson, a spokeswoman for Cedars-Sinai, said she could not confirm reports that Knight was being treated there due to strict medical privacy laws, according to The Associated Press.
Some partygoers who witnessed the chaos suspected the shots were intended for the "Loyal" singer instead.
"Literally can't believe what I just witnessed," one attendee, Katie Clendon, tweeted. "Someone tried to fire shots at Chris Brown at 1oak. Speechless."
“It’s disappointing that we as a society can’t have fun or enjoy ourselves without any altercations sometimes,” Brown tweeted around 6 a.m. Los Angeles time Sunday. “Miss me with the bulls--t!!”
