A Chinese noodle shop owner laced his dishes with opium poppy seeds to get customers hooked on his food so they'd keep coming back, police said.
Zhang allegedly bought $100 worth of poppy buds, which he crushed up into powder and mixed into meals served from his Yan'an restaurant.
But his scam came to light after one of his diners, Liu Juyou, tested positive for drugs in a routine traffic stop urine test.
That was despite him insisting that he'd never touched any illegal narcotic.
Suspecting the noodle shop he'd eaten at just hours before could be to blame, Juyou - who was detained by cops for 15 days - sent relatives to have a meal there and then be tested, according to the BBC.
They also returned a positive result.
Zhang was arrested and held for 10 days by the police, reports the South China Morning Post.
He reportedly confessed to buying 4.4-pounds of poppy shells in August.
Police said the unprocessed seeds, which used to a popular ingredient in China until being banned, contained enough opiates to gradually build up in the body and eventually trigger a positive drugs test result.
