Chelsea Handler Speaks On Her 50 Cent Romance Backlash

Chelsea Handler has shared further details about her past relationship with 50 Cent, whom she dated briefly in the early 2010s. The rapper and media mogul was mentioned during Handler's recent appearance on the Scott Evans-hosted House Guest, the comedian joked that Fif "convinced" her to date him. Handler said the G-Unit mogul asked her out after being a guest on her former E! show. "It was like a Friday that he was a guest, I think. And then I came in over the weekend and there were like dozens and dozens of roses in my office," Handler told Evans. "And my assistant was like, 'Curtis Cent has called three times.' And I was like, 'Who's Curtis?' She's like, 'Fiddy.'" Handler added that celebrity men had hit on her before and that she nearly brushed off Fifty's advances before giving in. "He was sweet 'cause he seemed gangsta, but he wasn't a gangsta," Handler insisted. "Like, the fact that he was shot so many times, you're like, 'How did you get shot? Like that doesn't even make any sense. Handler invited him to her stand-up performance in New Orleans that weekend to go out for a drink with him afterwards. "He comes to the hotel. He checks in. And my assistant's like, 'Okay, well, now you're really going to deal with him. And I was like, 'Oh shit, what did I get myself into?'" Handler joked. The comedian later suggested that they go for a walk, which The Massacre rapper tried to talk her out of, knowing that they'd be swarmed by fans, which eventually happened. "Black people and everyone knew him and he's like a major deal," Handler said. "He came to my show. He was very sweet. He's such a sweet guy and he doesn't do drugs which was the biggest disappointment of all." Handler added that the two dated for "a very short time" and that it "blew up" because the public was confused about their chemistry. Elsewhere, Handler mentioned the "backlash" their brief relationship had gotten. "I don't allow myself to get upset about things like that. But I think at that point in my career, people were just, like, I mean — it was just kind of racist, this backlash," she said. Earlier this year, Handler revealed on the Call Her Daddy podcast that she bought a "chocolate Bentley" to impress Fifty before realizing that artists often rent high-end cars.
