Chaka Khan is drawing attention again after offering a complicated assessment of Ike Turner during a recent appearance on the Table Manners podcast. While discussing her long history in the music business, Khan described Turner as “a lovely human being” despite his widely documented abuse of his former wife, Tina Turner. The comments surfaced as host Jessie Ware brought up Khan’s early years in the industry. Khan said Turner had supported her career when she was still coming up with Rufus, recalling that he flew the group to Los Angeles to record and later invited her to join his revue as an Ikette. Khan declined the offer, choosing instead to continue building her own path with the band. Khan said her personal experiences with Turner were different from the public image attached to him. “I know people have different experiences with people,” she said on the podcast. “But he was a lovely human being to me. She added that Turner was “very giving” and said he often helped younger musicians during the early years of their careers. The remarks have sparked renewed discussion because of Turner’s history with Tina Turner, who publicly detailed years of abuse in her memoir and later interviews
